I played two more sessions on Pacific last night. I should not have played the first one, since I did not really have enough time to sit and wait for cards. The first session was only 25 hands and I lost $0.26. I only saw the flop one time during that session and then folded after the flop. The second session went better. I was able to play 63 hands and I ended up winning $2.42. The tables at Pacific are so loose compared to Royal Vegas. Finally the stuff I have been reading about in Winning Low Limit Hold'em applies.

I did lose quite a bit one early hand during my second session. I was dealt A5s and had posted a blind so I could get in the game right away. The flop was 999 and I decided to see the turn. The turn was a 4 and the river was another 4. The was only one other person in the hand with me at the river and I figured the board was the best hand so I kept raising. Finally the guy flips over 44 and took the whole pot. I ended up putting $0.60 into his stack.

I won 7 hands last night and 5 of the pot were over $1.00. The biggest pot I won was $1.66 with a pair of Kings. I am looking forward to playing a lot more hands on Pacific Poker this weekend.

Playing at Pacific Poker

I signed up for a real money account at Pacific Poker on Monday. I haven't deposited any money there yet. I wanted to see how many $0.05/$0.10 tables they had going and how loose they were. When I got to the lobby there were several full .05/.10 tables and they looked pretty loose. Most of the average pot sizes were well over $1.00. This morning I got an email from Pacific Poker saying that $5.00 had been credited to my account. Sure enough when I logged on to Pacific, the $5.00 was there.

I just finished my first session on Pacific and it went pretty well. I ended up winning $2.18. The first pot I won was $2.09 with an Ace high straight that I flopped holding KTs. I was sitting in early position and a player in front of my called and a player behind me called. The player on the button then raised. Normally, I would have folded this hand after a raise but I had just watch the raiser raise with A4 in the previous hand so I figured he was a pretty loose player. The rest of us called his raise. After the flop hit me, I bet or raised during each round.

I am really looking forward to playing on there again. I will probably see what I can do with this initial $5.00 and then deposit some money if it goes well. The software on Pacific is not very good. I probably wont be playing on there for the long run, but I will see where it gets me.

I think I played this hand very well, even though I lost the pot. I was glad I did not fall into the trap he was trying to set up at the end. I still consider this a win because the other guy made a mistake calling my raise on the turn with only 2 outs. He did not have the correct pot odds to make that call correct, but he got lucky.

I saw one other player call with a pair of aces during this session. It seems to be the standard to only call with Aces on Royal Vegas. Everyone plays so tight on there now that you can't get anyone to call if you bet or raise from early position. I know I would have folded my sixes if there had been a bet before me.

This was a stupid play that I made at the end of the session. I don't know why I reraised on the river other than I was pretty tired at the end of the session.

A couple of attempts at SNG

I played a couple SNG tournaments on Tuesday night. I did not do very well at all. I planned to play very tight in the early stages and then loosen up in the middle. I didn't make it to the middle stage in either of them. During the first one I went out in sixth place with pocket Queens against two pair. That was a really stupid move. I had a feeling I was beaten, but called the all-in bet anyway. I made it further in the second tournament as far as the blinds go, but still finished seventh. I only won one pot during either tournament and that was because everyone folded around to me in the BB. Pathetic.

It looks like I will sticking with micro limit hold'em for a little while longer.

Grinding away

I played another 117 hands Sunday afternoon. I made quite a few more mistakes than I did correct plays and ended up losing another $0.68. I did not play any two cards but waited for the right cards to come at the right time and tried to play them agressively. I held on to some very marginal hands after the flop. I have to remember to not only play tight before the flop but also tight after the flop.

A Few More Hands

I was only able to get in another 85 hands last night and I ended up losing $2.02. I would have liked to play longer, but there just wasn't enough people playing .05/.10 limit on RVP to carry on. I don't think I played any different last night than I did on Friday night. The cards just did not help me out. There were several river cards that did me in. I will post those hand histories later.

Good Decisions....Mostly

I played 204 hands last night. For the most part I played pretty well. I waited for the right starting hands to come and when they did I played them aggressively. If I had top pair or a set on the flop I would bet. If I had four to a flush on the flop I would also bet on the flop. There were 3 or 4 bad calls that I made on the river even though I knew I was beat, but most of the time I folded in that position. I ended up winning $1.61 from last night's session.

I have changed my focus when it comes to playing poker. Until now, I have been focused on winning pots and building my bankroll. Now my goal is to play 10k-15k hands at this level (.05/.10 limit) and gain experience. So far I have played 4544 hands since I started in June of this year.

Two of the first three pots I won last night were split pots. The first one was split three ways. We were all holding Ax and there was an Ace and a pair of sevens on the board. What are the odds? The second split pot, we both ended up making a Jack high straight on the river. I started out in late postions with JTo and my opponent was holding a pair of Jacks.

There were a couple of hands that I was dealt in the BB that were really weak, but ended up winning the pot. My opponents either gave me the correct odds to draw to the card I needed on the river or they let me see it for cheaply. The pots I did win that way were not huge, but I am not complaining. Capitalizing on the mistakes of your opponents is what poker is about.

I am pretty happy with the way I played last night. I know I made a few mistakes and I would have won more if I had not made them, but I felt I learned from them. I really need to learn to pay attention and take notes on my opponents when I am not involved in hands.

Poor Decisions

I played three sessions on Saturday. I used the starting hands from Small Stakes Hold'em and I think I understand the chart better after playing with it. I didn't make a whole lot of progress during these sessions. I got outplayed a few times. I really need to learn to find and focus on the players that are worse than me.

I started out doing pretty well. After about twenty hands I was up $1.03, but I made some bad calls after the flop on the other hands I stayed in on.

I think I should have folded this one after the river when I did not get an ace to complete the straight. Even then it would have only been good for half the pot, which would have been twice what I contributed. I ended up losing $0.35 during this session.

I played a longer session on Saturday afternoon and again it started out well, but I made some bad decisions after the flop and lost most of my winnings. After about 30 hands I was up almost $1.00.

A week without Poker and some fantasy football news

I haven't had time to play any poker since Sunday. Maybe I will get a chance to play some tonight. I am looking forward to playing again. I have been spending a lot of time reading and trying to figure out Small Stakes Hold'em. I really hope my play improves after reading it. I want to become a consistent winner and move up in stakes. After my bankroll bigger, I would like to play some SNGs and MTTs. I really enjoyed playing the tournament last week.

I have joined my first fantasy football league and it made watching last night's game between the Patriots and the Raider pretty interesting. I selected Tom Brady as my quarterback and Vinatieri as my kicker. I found myself rooting for the Patriots pass and score when the Pats were on offense and then rooting against the Pats defense. I am really looking to sunday and seeing how the rest of my team performs. I am especially looking forward to seeing how the Cowboys do this week.

First Tournament

I played in my first tournament on Sunday. It was the $1000 freeroll on Royal Vegas. I did better than I expected I would. My chip count was below average the whole time I played. I had to go all-in several times. The biggest pot I won was 1640 with a flush. I made it to the first break with only 375 and then when play resumed I had to go all-in again with QJs. I had the hand won until the river when a K hit giving my opponent a higher pair. I went out 1499th out of 10000 players. I had a good time. I will have to try and play some more freerolls.

Short Saturday Session

I was able to play about 40 hands Saturday afternoon and I won 5 of them. I made better decisions and I played more aggressively. The table was pretty loose and a lot of the pots were over $1.00, unfortunately I wasn't involved in the big ones. The biggest pot I won was $0.89, with two pair (Aces and Jacks). Near the end of the session, we were playing short-handed, but I loosened up my starting hands and was able to win a few more pots. I ended up winning $1.00.

A Whole Lot of Nothing

I played 3 1/2 hours on Friday night and lost quite a bit. I was dealt very few playable hands, I stayed in way too long and I made some very poor decisions. I tried to not let it bother me, but it really did. I kept hoping it would turn around soon (that seems to be a recurring theme when I am losing). I need to recognize sooner when I am having a bad run and get out sooner. I did win a few hands, but nothing significant. At the end of the session I was down $2.98.

Taking Names and Kicking Nothing

I didn't get the great cards last night that I was getting last session, but I didn't really expect to. I started out this session intending to keep notes on my opponents, but that turned out to be very distracting. I really need an effective way of keeping track of what people are playing and doing.

I only played about 70 hands, winning two of them, but still ended up losing $0.62. The table was very tight and aggressive. There was very little preflop raising.

It was a good thing the other guy didn't have an Ace or this would have been a huge loss for me. After this hand I was up a whole nickel. Then a few hands later my two pair (Jacks and Tens) was beaten by three of a kind on the river and was back down $0.64. I should have played my top pair more aggressively on the turn instead of checking and letting someone else bet first.

The other pot I won was $0.51 with a pair of Kings. I started out with Kc Ts on the button. Three hearts hit on the flop and everyone checked. The turn gave me my second K and everyone checked again. The river was the Qs, the SB and BB checked and then UTG bet. Everyone folded around to me and I called. UTG was holding Ks 9h.

The .05/.10 limit games on Royal Vegas have become pretty difficult to win during the week and also pretty scarce. I guess everyone is at Party Poker. I am going to try and play my first freeroll tournament on RV this weekend. I hope I don't bust out first.
